Compile Error in Hidden Module:link

Every time I opened Word I noticed that an error would pop up that said: “compile error in hidden module:link” This happened after I started working on tracked-edit documents with my advisor who must be using a different version of Word than me. Here’s how I fixed it!

Some of this info came from Steve Fan on theTechNet forum of Microsoft.

Get Rid of that error in just 3 steps!

Step 1: Locate the linkCreation file:

The recommendation was that it can be found at either: A) Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office365/User Content/Startup/Word or B) ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content/Startup/Word/

I found the file here: C) ~/Library/Group\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User\ Content.localized/Startup.localized/Word/

There I found the file linkCreation.dotm

Step 2: Move that .dotm file somewhere:

I used: mv linkCreation.dotm ~/Desktop/

Step 3: PROFIT!

Open up Word and the error should no longer appear.

Yes, technically this was just 2 steps. :) I’m always happy when a troubleshooting solution is simple. Its so rare when that happens.
